Wedding Wednesday - Bridal Portraits

I'm trying to be patient when it comes to our wedding pictures but it's driving me NUTS that I still haven't seen a single photo. It's been a month and I just need one sneak peak. But I haven't seen any yet so to tide you over I'm going to share a couple of my bridal portraits with you. I love them, hope you do too.

Dave Matthews Band!

Last night Andy and I went to the Dave Matthews Band concert and it was awesome! After threatening to rain all day and sitting in ‘parking lot’ like traffic because they closed down a bunch of lanes we ended up having a perfect evening.
(Sorry for the rough picture, I'm the only person in the world who doesn't have a great camera on my phone.)

Dave had one of the coolest screens I’ve ever seen set up on stage and the whole band just seemed to enjoy themselves as much as we did. This was my first Dave concert and it was really fun. Everyone there seemed to be in a great mood and in there own little world.

Thanks Dave Matthews Band for a great night!

Wedding Wednesday

What I Wore

I have been waiting for forever to do this post because I loved everything I wore on my wedding day. (Which I’m guessing is a DUH! statement for all brides.)

Getting ready:
I got all my bridesmaids button down shirts with their initials on them to wear while we got ready. I, of course, had to get myself one too. Everyone loved them and they made for an easy change throughout the day. (Oh and my friends made me wear a crown.)

The Dress:
I think it’s funny that when I saw pictures of my dress in a magazine I didn’t like it. But then I put it on and it just felt right. I felt pretty, grown-up, and bridal and my dress was so “me”. It’s called Maeve by Priscilla of Boston: Vineyard Collection. I tried on a couple slim dresses and it just wasn’t my style. This was my chance to wear a poofy dress, and boy did I take advantage of it.

Veil:
I wasn’t even sure I wanted a veil when I first started looking at dresses. But when I found the dress the lovely ladies at the bridal store put this long veil on me and I was hooked. It’s amazing how much the veil made me feel like a bride. It was custom made by Poinsett Bride and the edging is actually material from my dress so it matched perfectly. I only wore it for the ceremony and pictures but I really loved it.

Jewelry:
I bought a broach and matching-ish hairclips at the same place I bought my dress. I needed just a little sparkle and these were perfect.
I found someone on Etsy who made wedding jewelry to make my earrings. I knew I wanted something with sparkles and pearls and these were a great combination of both.

Shoes:
I found my shoes way before I found my dress. Yes I know I’m weird, but I have really small feet and sling-backs fit my foot better than regular heels. So when I found these in size 5 ½ and in the same color as the bridesmaids dress I jumped on them. I loved the pop of color they added and they were really comfortable. After the garter toss I changed into the white Rainbows my mom gave me at my bridal shower. (Back story: my mom was horrified when I said I would probably change into flipflops sometime during the night so she bought me white ones to blend in with the dress. )

Makeup and Perfume:All my make up was Bare Minerals. This was the first time I had ever used this type of makeup and I wasn’t that impressed. For my bridal portraits, which were taken in a different city, I had the spray on makeup and that was awesome! I wore a completely new perfume on our wedding day, Flora by Gucci: Gorgeous Gardenia. It’s flowery, sweet, feminine, and perfect for a bride. I could only get a sample of it because Sephorna was sold out, but I’ll be buying it at some point. Both Andy and I associate it’s smell with our wedding day and honeymoon, which is always something we’ll want to remember.
What was your favorite thing you wore on your wedding day?

My First Birchbox!

After hearing so much about Birchbox and reading lots of blog posts about it I finally decided to join the club. I've never been great with beauty products and experimenting with my "look" so I thought this may be a great way to try some new products.
I got my first Birchbox at the end of last week and I was really excited. I wanted to try everything out before I posted about it. It was fun trying out new stuff and getting out of the same routine. So here is what I got and what I thought:
Atelier Cologne: Vanille Insensee - I've been wearing the same scent for awhile so this was a great sample. I got a couple complements already on it  and I've only worn it a couple days. I like it, but I'm not sure if I'm in love.
Twistband - I've heard about these new hair ties before but I just wasn't that impressed. I have extremely fine, thin hair so I might be a harder sell than most. The band just didn't hold my hair very tightly.

Color Club: Nail Polish in Disco Nap - I can't say I owned gold nail polish before my Birchbox came in. I'm still milking my wedding manicure and pedicure for all it's worth so I'll have to try this sample out a little later.
Dr. Jart + : Waterfuse BB Cream - I really kind of liked this product. It is like a really nice tinted moisturizer, or at least that's how I have been using it. I love that it's really light and has 25spf built in, both are great with summer coming up.
fresh: Sugar Rose Tinted Lip Treatment - This was by far my favorite item in the box. I'm addicted to chapstick but I generally hate the tinted versions. But this one was light, natural looking, and easy takes the place of chapstick. Two thumbs up for me.
It was really fun getting my first Birchbox and it was a great little surprise to get in the middle of the week. Big thanks to all my friends who suggested it.

First 5K Experience

I knocked something off my bucket list on Friday.

I ran a 5K.

I am not a runner. I don’t particularly enjoy it. I look like a hot mess when and after I run. I never played a sport where I had to run much so starting to run was pretty foreign to me. But I’ve always wanted to run a 5K. Important note: I don’t want to win a 5K, I just want to finish without passing out or embarrassing myself.
I started training with the Couch to 5K app on my phone, which I would highly recommend. Andy was sweet enough to do it with me which is nice because doing something on my own means it probably won’t happen. I was pretty good for a while but then I started my new job and the wedding planning took over and running fell by the wayside.
Then the people in my office thought it would be fun if all of us ran an afternoon race together. So we all signed up and ran it together Friday evening. Since it’s been a while, I tried to pace myself. I’m used to a treadmill and I found running outside a little harder, especially the hills! But it was a perfect day for a run. Not to hot, a little breeze and lots of friends to encourage me along.

It was an overall great experince and I plan to run a couple more 5K races this year. Andy and I want to run one together, he was sick during this past one, and we have our sites set on a really fun one. It's called the Color Run and it's coming to Charlotte in October.

Anyone want to run with us?
